As the third brother to be recruited by the South Sydney Rabbitohs, George Burgess has certainly established himself as one of the premier front rowers in the game, with blockbusting performances at both the club and international level.
George began his Rugby League career representing England against the Australian school boys in 2010 and training with the full squad of the Bradford Bulls. By 2012 however, George had followed in his older brother’s footsteps and moved to Sydney to make his NRL debut for the South Sydney Rabbitohs. George’s on-field performances didn’t go unnoticed in his breakout season and he was awarded both the RLPA and Dally M Rookie of the Year awards. This firmly cemented his position as an integral member of the team.
The impact of signing the ‘Burgess Brothers’ was significant and in 2014 George scored one of the most memorable tries in Grand Final history to contribute to the Rabbitohs 2014 Grand Final win. A win that came after a long 43 years wait!
George made his international debut for England at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup and has since played 12 tests, including appearances in all 3 Four Nations test matches in 2016.
